Hey hey you guys!
Svavar Knútur here, your friendly neighbourhood Troubadour. I have lots of cool news for you!
A new song out today, a new album out in September and an upcoming massive tour of Germany and Austria.
So here is my news, in a bit more detail.
NEW SONG - MORGUNN
A couple of weeks ago, I released my song Morgunn (Morning) on icelandic Radio and boy did it take off! It’s been in the second place in the Icelandic national radio charts for four weeks running! It just slipped down to number six this week, so, now we’re making it available on Spotify and I’m super excited to hear what you think about it.
The song is about the beauty of the morning, how nature and the human spirit both fill with life as the warm rays of the sun break the darkness and wake the world. A song of gratitude and celebration. I really hope you like it.
Check it out on spotify, but here's also a link to a little video I made for you guys, from some of the photos and videos from my phone. Some of you might actually be in the video ;-)
For the last couple of months, my lovely friends and I have been busy, recording a new album, called Ahoy! Side A. The album is an experiment, side A of a bigger album, with side B to be released later. But it’s still a full album, with nine songs. Five new songs and four older songs, “repainted”. I’m really happy with it and I’m looking forward to hearing how you guys like it. It’ll be released for streaming and downloading on september 14th. I’ll tell you more about the album as the release draws closer.
Here’s the album cover artwork for you guys. The artwork is the product of my daughter Dagbjört Lilja.
Click it to get to the download link page! :D
Also, I’m coming to Europe for a tour in september and cotober, playing Germany and Austria this time, but no worries guys in other countries, I have plenty of plans for tours over at your places. Look out Switzerland, Scandinavia, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and more. I'm working on coming your way.
My tour is wonderfully presented and supported by ASK HELMUT, The Postie, Kulturnews, Soundkartell, Folker and the awesome folks at Interrail.

So, first things first! My first music video is out! For the song "Brot (the breaking)". It's an animated short done by my friends Jörg Zysik and Nanja Heid of Trickfilm in Bremen. I hope you guys like it. It's a dramatic story of maritime adventures, love and danger. Woohoo...
Please share it if you like it.

See you soon guys! Enjoy!
Long time since I updated this right here. So I wanted to let you know a couple of things!
First of all, I have a new album coming out this month, called My goodbye lovelies. It's a collection of some of my favorite farewell songs (encores) as well as some covers that I love just a bit too much to let go.
The artwork is a bit feisty. I hope it doesn't scare you guys away. :-)
I'm coming to Europe on a tour, end of April until the end of may.
You can see all of the dates in my tour calendar just above. Hope to see you there!
As always, let me know if there's any songs you'd like me to put up here with tabs/notations and lyrics.
Love and joy,
your ever loving friend,
a couple of weeks ago, I learned of the passing of my dear friend Beat Anliker in Thun, Switzerland.
Beat was a wonderful human being, full of passion and love of music. He was the owner of the Café bar Mokka, and a great supporter of the Indie scene.
This song sprang into my mind, an old and beautiful song by my friend Ólöf Arnalds.
I recorded it at Soundcloud Studios in Berlin with the help of the amazingly talented Carina Schwertner from the band "Oh, Lonesome me."
I hope you like it.
your ever loving troubadour,
Hey guys! I'm really sorry about my lack of blogging for the past 9 months. I've been super busy and working like crazy and I totally forgot to put stuff on my website.
So, basically, this has happened:
I released my new album, Brot (The Breaking) which has done wonderfully, on CD and Vinyl.
A christmas tour in Germany
In January, I did a concert in Mengi with a couple of noise artist friends of mine. They basically electronically processed the signals from my mic and my guitar and totally distorted and electrocuted it. It was a crazy and fun experience and I can't wait to do it again.
A tour of Europe in february.
Theater work in Gütersloh, Germany on a new play by my friend Christian. Wrote and performed music and did some acting. Premiered in May.
Tour of Europe in May.
Toured Iceland in june/July with my friend Kristjana Stefáns, who is just about to release her new album.
Played two concerts with my wonderful friend Marketa Irglova in Czech republic in june.
Played Torp Festival (NO) and Bardentreffen (DE) in July.
Did a short, impromptu tour of Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland in August.
It's been grand! :D I'm so grateful for having the opportunity to participate in all these fun adventures!
Ahead is some more touring of Europe and Canada and some songwriting. Also, a concert with Tina Dico in Copenhagen.
Right now I'm working with the most amazing Reykjavík Melodica team on this years festival, which will take place in August.
Hope to see you guys somewhere along the way in the next year.
Svavar Knútur here!

And here's the CD cover:
Aaand the Vinyl cover:
I can't wait to present it to you in the coming months! Of course in a couple of weeks you'll be able to buy it digitally at svavarknutur.bandcamp.com or Itunes or Amazon or stream it on Spotify and other streaming services.
So here's a little preview, the title song Brot, in icelandic. A rough English translation of the lyrics follows.
Brot (The breaking)
No storms have crashed on me this night
to my relief
I have walked a crooked path, all my life and plans
But even if sometimes I can try to sail my life straight
chaos still haunts me
The world’s hard times fill my mind with a blizzard
I find no refuge.
Will I find today a short respite
Will I find in this place some sanctuary
just for one breath.
I have been thrown across the ocean, sunk to the bottom
ran my heart aground
Got back afloat, waves crashed on my soul,
could not find my way to safe harbour.
And though sometimes I find quiet, It goes slow and hard
calming the waves.
But the thought that life’s hailstorm will subside
I count as my life’s salvation.
Will I find today a short respite
Will I find in this place some sanctuary
just for one breath.
Just wanted to let you know two wonderful things!

I'm currently cruising around the U.S., using Amtrak as my transportation of choice and just enjoying the heck out of it.
Played some concerts in Vancouver and Seattle last week and at the Club Passim in Cambridge, MA, yesterday. I got to open up for the mighty Steve Poltz. That man is a one man legend! Shit! I'm so humbled right now! He showed me a new dimension on what can be done during an acoustic performance.
It's going great and I'm just super happy.
Just wanted to share that with you guys!
